Parent newsletter, September 2019
19th September 2019
Welcome to Term One’s edition of WASPS newsletter. This is designed to keep you up-to-date with the latest events, new starters and other pre-school news. Other information and events will also be posted on the WASPS facebook page www.facebook.com/WASPSpreschool.
This term’s topics are numbers, shapes and colours, and autumn. We shall be carrying out lots of creative activities including making Elmer and spotty dog, leaf people, cooking hedgehog bread rolls and making leaf prints.
Pre-school AGM - It is being held at pre-school on Tuesday 22nd October at 8.00pm.
As pre-school is a charity, there needs to be a committee made up of parents to oversee its running and to organise two or three fundraising events over the year. The committee is seeking new members with fresh ideas, so if you are that person, then please come along on the evening.
There will be wine and nibbles too!
New Starters - This term we are pleased to welcome six new starters who are settling in really well!
Half Term Holidays – Pre-school/after school club close for the half term break on Friday 25th October at 3.00pm and 5.30pm respectively, and we return on Tuesday 5th November.
Pre-school Sickness Policy - We would like to remind parents of our sickness policy. To reduce the spread/exposure to illness, it is very important that the pre-school sickness policy is strictly followed. After sickness or diarrhoea, parents are asked to keep their child home for 48 hours and until a formed stool is passed. If your child is ‘under the weather’ and you are considering giving them either ibuprofen or paracetamol so that they can attend pre-school, then they are obviously unwell and should not be coming into the setting. All absences due to illness should be telephoned through to the setting (01865 859933).
Named Items - Please make sure bags, coats, shoes, drink bottles and food containers are named and food items that need to go into the fridge are named and put in the white tray in the entrance lobby. Having items named will help staff tremendously. A good place to look for labels is eBay, search stick on name labels
Nut Free Setting – A reminder that we are a nut free setting. We have a child with a nut allergy, so please ensure you do not send your child in with any nut products in their packed lunch.
Cold and Wet Weather Clothing - As the weather has started to turn colder and wetter, please remember to dress your child in several layers of clothing and bring in a jumper/fleece and coat, along with wellington boots and waterproof clothing so that we can take the children outside whatever the weather. Can you also make sure that there is at least one change of clothing in a named bag on your child’s peg, as there is always the opportunity to get wet during certain activities over the day and we are running out of spare clothing.
Toilet Training – If your child is in the process of toilet training, please ensure there are at least three named changes of clothes in their bag.
Collection Times and Gates – Pre-school has to work within a strict child to adult ration, so it is very important that the children are picked up by 3.00pm, before the after school club children are collected from school.
It is also essential that both gates along the yellow path area are closed when entering and leaving pre-school, so that the safety of those children still on-site can be upheld.
Trays – Please remember to check your child’s tray at the end of each session, as they fill up quickly with artwork and any news or information.
